A little while ago I had a comment from a viewer on my YouTube channel requesting a video about how to get your makeup to last all day. It was something they had trouble with and wondered if it might be to do with the order they applied their makeup in; this week I was finally able to upload it:
I get the impression this is something people think is mainly to do with the makeup they’re using or the way they’re putting it on and this could sometimes be the case but mostly, it’s skincare that has a major effect on how your makeup fairs the day. Establishing a simple but effective skincare routine is so important for your skin to function effectively and to be at its optimum health. This will in turn also prevent skin conditions and premature ageing. Getting to know your skin in the process (what it likes/doesn’t like, what product formulations are too rich or too light, etc.) means that you’re better able to buy products that suit you, which saves you money and time as well.
Not so long ago, I wrote a blog post about the basics of skincare and why we should even bother: is it all just an unnecessary faff or does our skin actually need a little TLC every day? It’s a really helpful insight as to how the skin works and how a good skincare routine will help it along its way and if you’re having some issues yourself with your skin or getting your makeup to last, it’s well worth a read! Let me know in the comments below how you get on with my advice or if you have any further questions about skincare?
Getting your makeup to last all day could also be about the products you’re using. Believe it or not, buying a cream foundation for an oily skin type might be the reason it moves around, transfers and feels like it’s disappeared by the end of the day! Knowing your skin type and which products suit/don’t suit it is also key to makeup lasting you the full day. It might seem like an effort to ‘get to know’ your skin initially but, once you do, you’ll be saving yourself a lot more effort and time and money (wasted on products that DON’T suit you), so it’s definitely worth it.
Lastly, your makeup might not be lasting the test of the day because of the way you’re applying it. In my video I explain how putting your makeup on in the wrong order could be the problem. It’s all about wet before dry and not the other way around! So go have a watch and let me know how you get on…
I hope my tips and hacks are helpful and might even get your out of some beauty and makeup ruts you’ve been experiencing! Do you have any other tips that work for you?
